Can I bring my gun to the gun show?

Yes! You can bring your gun to the gun show.

I’ve been a vendor at the Colorado Gun Shows for many years and I often get asked if you are allowed to bring in your firearm. I will focus on the Colorado gun shows but I suspect the rules are about the same at other shows through the United States.

The answer to bringing your firearm is, yes, but there are rules you must follow to keep everyone safe. Keep in mind, just because you have a concealed carry permit, it does NOT mean you can attend the gun show with a loaded and concealed firearm.

  • Make sure your firearm in unloaded and the magazine, cylinders, etc. do not have a round in the chamber.
  • The guards will place a nylon tie wrap on your firearm making sure it’s unloaded and it’s safe for anyone to handle. No need to worry about them damaging your firearm, they know what they are doing.
  • If you are purchasing a holster, laser, rail mounted flashlight or other accessories, such as those available from Gunner Security having you firearm assures the item fits correctly.
  • Besides the vendors, customers bring their firearms to sell. They are easy to spot due the creative “for sale” signs placed on their weapons as they walk around at the show. If selling a firearm, its strongly recommended a background check is ran on the person who is buying the gun.  They only cost $10 and can keep you out of a lot of trouble.
  • You cannot conduct the actual sale of the firearm sale while on the gun show property. Simply find somewhere else to do it.
  • Today’s economy has put a strain on almost everyone, including the vendors. Our travel, shipping, product and gun show rental space prices keep going up. Many of us are keeping our prices as low as possible but it’s getting tougher to do so. Asking for a big discount on items is just about impossible.

  1. Thanks for the info. I saw your lasers and rail flashlights at the last show and I’m bringing my Springfield XDM to have you mount one on it tomorrow. You were super helpful at the last show and spent a lot of time explaining lasers and lights. I appreciated it. Roy N, Loveland CO
