One Type of Leather Wallet Holster

Leather Wallet Holster: Shoot Throughs

Typically, a leather wallet holster can be placed into one of two categories. One is where your pistol must be removed from the holster to shoot it; the other allows you shoot your pistol while it remains in the holster. This blog will focus on the second type, known as the shoot through leather wallet holster.

Holster Functionality

The first thing to look for is what gun is it designed for? Some manufacturers make a holster for each of the popular compact pistols. Others have designed a wallet holster to fit several pistols whose frame size is almost identical to each other. When the pistol is inserted into the holster, it form fits around it, assuring a nice tight fit.

Material For Leather Wallet Holster

Not all leather is the same; it comes in different levels of quality. The easiest way to tell how good leather is from its surface or texture. The best leather has 10% or less imperfections, is one solid color and is smooth. The second best maintains about 80% of its color of and has only a few imperfections in its surface. Cheap leather has 60% imperfections, and the color is streaked. Price is also good indicator. Cheap wallet holsters use thin, low grade leather that has been processed outside the USA. It ends up flaking and cracking in a few months.

Leather Wallet Holster Fit

The tighter the fit, the better. Because cheap holsters use thin leather, the pistol becomes loose in holster and the muzzle begins to rise up out of the holster after a few rounds. This is a common complaint I hear from individuals who ask me about my leather wallet holsters. I assure them, this is NOT the case with the holsters from Gunner Security. Our holsters hold the pistol very securely and form fit to the pistol. They are such a tight fit, I provide an installation link on the holster web page showing how to install a Ruger LCP into this holster. Almost weekly, we receive emails telling us how pleased customers are with the wallet holster and how well it fits their pistol.  They wished they had not wasted money on the cheaper, knock off versions.

Holster Design

Another uses large rivets in its construction and another uses large washers, a screw and nut. I’m concerned the snap/rivet or screw will get snagged on your clothing when pulling the gun out of your front or rear pocket. Our patent pending design does not use external fasteners/screws, etc. The holster is smooth and slick, assuring a snag free draw. You can also swap magazines and pull back the slide while the pistol remains in the holster.

Finally, how easy is it to shoot your pistol while it’s in the wallet holster? Our holster is designed with a lower front grip section. The extra stability from a two handed grip allows you to shoot further and faster while you act as a stable platform.

Our leather wallet holsters are made in the USA from premium top grain leather and come with a limited lifetime warranty.
