Benefits of a Behind the Back Belly Band –

A behind-the-back belly band or small-of-back (SOB) belly band, is a variation of the traditional belly band holster designed to be worn at the lower back. While less common than belly bands worn around the waist or abdomen, behind-the-back belly bands offer several potential uses and advantages:

  1. Concealment: Like other belly bands, a behind-the-back belly band can provide excellent concealment for a firearm. Placing the firearm at the small of the back can effectively hide it under a variety of clothing, including jackets, loose shirts, or sweaters.
  2. Accessibility: While drawing from behind the back may require more flexibility and practice compared to other positions, a behind-the-back belly band can still offer relatively quick access to the firearm. With proper training and muscle memory development, individuals can learn to draw their firearm efficiently from this position.
  3. Comfort: Some users find wearing a firearm at the small of the back more comfortable than other carry positions, particularly if they spend a lot of time sitting or driving. The lumbar region of the back may be less sensitive to pressure and movement compared to the waist or abdomen for some individuals.
  4. Versatility: Behind-the-back belly bands can be suitable for a wide range of body types and clothing styles. They can be adjusted to fit snugly against the body, providing stability and preventing the firearm from shifting during movement.
  5. Discreet Carry Option: Depending on individual body shape and clothing choices, carrying a firearm at the small of the back can offer discreet concealment without the need for bulky outer garments or specialized clothing. This can be particularly advantageous in situations where maintaining a low profile is desirable.

As with any concealed carry method, individuals should carefully consider their specific needs, preferences, and lifestyle factors when choosing a carry position and holster type. Proper training, practice, and adherence to firearm safety principles are essential regardless of the carry method used.
